Beginning with master planning, Vincent Chrisp Architects' design for the Dandenong Valley Special Developmental School was characterised by a curvilinear spine covered walkway that connects each of the classroom modules together. Each classroom module has a feature portico that announces its location from a distance.
Designed for children with moderate to profound disabilities, it is supportive of a broad spectrum of abilities, carefully dealing with not only mobility or muscle hypotonia, but also stimulation levels, acoustics, attention focus, and emotional regulation.
